Last week the children had a lot of fun linked to our Safari / Africa topic.  They learned how to write  questions and asked Mrs Lindy the questions they had written because she is from Africa. The children received a letter from Handa, a little girl from the story we have been reading in class.   They learned how to write a letter and wrote a letter back to Handa.

In Maths they are learning about their daily routine, the vocabulary linked to the daily routine and how to tell time on a clock.

A part of our history topic the children having been learning about Mary Anning. She is a famous Fossil Hunter.  The children love this topic.

The children have also been learning about plurals.  They know more than 1 rule.

Year One

This week has been busy in Year One! We have been practicing really hard for our school performance The Three Billy Goats Gruff.

In math we have revised some previous work like our daily routine and time of day in order to move on to learning about time after the holidays.

In Creative Curriculum we have been using the designs we made to make our own bird feeders. We are doing this independently in order to learn how to problem solve when making something and copying a design. We are able to say why we choose this design and why it works well as a bird feeder.

In English we have been focusing on writing facts about Africa and cursive handwriting.  We continue to work on phase 5 sounds and tricky words!

Here are our photos enjoy.

Last week Year 1 looked at homemade bird feeders, gave an opinion on them, designed their own and made their own.  Take a look at the final products -

Also they have been learning the story Handa's Hen because we are learning about other cultures.
They sequenced the story in order showing they understand and know the story well.
